Who We Are
Welcome to the VA Cooperative Studies Program (CSP), a division of the VA's Office of Research and Development (ORD). CSP is responsible for the planning and conduct of large, multicenter clinical trials and epidemiological studies within VA.
Our Mission
The CSP mission is to advance the health of Veterans through cooperative research studies that produce innovative and effective solutions to Veteran and national health care problems. We do this through a comprehensive, rigorous and quality-based approach that confronts important clinical questions.
Our Research Network
The CSP network includes a vast team of VA clinician-investigators, expert statisticians, epidemiologists, pharmacists, regulatory professionals, project managers, informatics specialists, quality managers and sites that are primed to quickly recruit and enroll participants into clinical research studies. In addition, our infrastructure comprises the following:
- Data and statistical coordinating centers
- Epidemiology research centers
- Pharmacy coordinating center
- DNA bank, biorepository and pharmacogenomics analysis laboratory
- Nationwide sites at VA medical centers that specialize in recruitment and enrollment
CSP frequently collaborates with experts outside of VA to maximize our impact on health care practice. Our partners include the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Defense (DoD), university affiliates, pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms, and non-profit organizations. We also have international partnerships in countries like Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.
Award-Winning Program
Our award-winning and internationally recognized program has provided evidence-based data toward the prevention, treatment and diagnosis of serious medical and health conditions. Since our beginnings in the 1940s, CSP has completed more than 200 studies and has an active research portfolio with trials conducted at more than 80 VA medical centers across the country.
